~ our joyful moments - weeks 49 and 50 ~

I'm finding it harder and harder to keep up with blogging even once a week at the moment - my resolution to blog more often next year is going to take some work!

Lots of lovely flowers and Christmas preparation bringing us joy this fortnight.
I made a floral wreath at a workshop which is now hanging inside and we picked our first hydrangeas of the season.
Karin has her beautiful candles out (and I spy some familiar wrapping) and also found these stunning roses in Copenhagen

#ourjoyfulmoments is a weekly (!) photography project  - we share the photos regularly on IG and intermittently on our blogs.

~ our joyful moments - week 48 ~

{I originally wrote this post a week ago and somehow it never got published}.

This is week 48 of #ourjoyfulmoments -  my photo is some of my snail mail presents wrapped and ready to send  - the snail mail community on instagram is such a supportive and wonderful group of women and I'm loving sharing some Christmas joy with them.

Karin has found some rare blue skies in what is usually a grey time of year.

We share some little moments of our week every week here and on IG.

~ our joyful moments - week 47 ~

This week I'm sharing roses from our garden sitting on the kitchen table in the beautiful afternoon light.

Karin has harvested her very first lemon from her tree - a perfect specimen.

~ our joyful moments - week 46 ~

Very seasonal offerings again this week.

I've been starting a little bit of Christmas craft (those overseas postal deadlines are looming) - thought this one just had to be part of #ourjoyfulmoments.

Karin has been finding a little colour amongst the grey.

~ our joyful moments - week 45 ~

We're celebrating the seasons this week.

I'm bringing in handfuls of the tiny Cecile Brunner roses that fill the house with a subtle peppery scent and Karin is enjoying the variety of citrus - to eat and play with!

~ our joyful moments - week 41 and 43 ~

Somehow I've got mixed up with my weeks and missed a post.

So this week I'm sharing two - weeks 41 and 43.

I've gone for cuteness this week - we visited our cousin's farm over the weekend and fell in love with Tiny Tim the poddy lamb they have been hand rearing since his mother died.  He thinks he's a puppy and now my children want one too!

Karin found these gorgeous autumn leaves on an outing with IG friends.  Love those colours.

(And two weeks ago I was mesmerised by the afternoon light in my backyard - we are slowly growing our own bluebell forest!
Karin was deciding on paint colours - such pretty colours again).

What's been your highlight this week?

~ our joyful moments - week 42 ~

I've finally finished reading The Luminaries (last year's Man Booker prize winner ...this year the winner was a Tasmanian author!) - what a slog it was.  I'm glad I finished but it was hard work  The book is looking pretty near my bed with some yellow banksia roses and my favourite beads though.

Karin has been baking again - her food is almost too pretty to eat I think!

We are finding the small joys in our lives and sharing them here and on IG

Have you read any good books recently?

~ around here this week ~

1.  wisteria at the botanical gardens - that colour!

2.  Grace demonstrating a very unorthodox tackling style in backyard footy games

3.  Nutmeg - getting so fat she can barely jump - someone else must be feeding her cos she's on starvation rations here

4.  I made slightly chewy but totally yummy anzacs

5.  afternoon light in our kitchen

6.  banksia rose sprawling all over one of the fences in the neighbourhood  - I'm hoping to squeeze some more walks after dinner in now the light and weather are better

7.  my photo - Monica McInerney's new bestselling novel - so exciting!!!  I almost fell over when I saw this in Big W.

We were straight back into school routines this week - lots of gymnastics, swimming lessons, skipping and the swimming carnival.  I am also consulting twice a week and this week had some immunising and a uni tute as well.  A very quiet weekend was definitely in order.

How was your week?

~ some school holiday stills ~

Following our grand adventure in Europe earlier in the year we thought some quiet time at home these holidays was in order.  We didn't make many plans and the days unfolded slowly - some playground time, crafting, gardening, time with friends, cooking, playing, wandering, Harry watching.

1.  Cecile Brunner roses are my faves - I found these today - the first of the season

2.  We made Gourmet Girlfriend's sausage rolls (and the spinach and feta ones) - they were both fantastic

3.  Poppy undressed

4.  A wander through the Japanese Gardens at the Botanical Gardens

5.  While the girls and I embarked on a Harry fest,  Jack was allowed some unfettered screen time.
(he's not allowed to watch Harry yet - house rules state you have to read the books first)

6.  Holiday traditions - we always paint our toenails.  Jack is in charge of colour arranging

7.  I worked my last clinic shift for one of my (very) part-time jobs.  They gave me flowers.  I love that.  This is the most amazing dahlia.

8. It was world post day on October 9th  - I sent some post cards and made a little vignette.

9.  Faffing with flowers for instagram - I waste many hours doing this - so much fun.

Have you just had holidays?  What were your highlights?

~ our joyful moments - week 40 ~

It's school holidays here and the children and I had a lovely wander through the Botanical Gardens during the week.  The Japanese gardens are looking particularly lovely - with the maples in full colour, the camellias in bloom and the wisteria almost in full flower.

Karin is in Italy - this is the view out over Lucca from the top of the tower.  I'm wishing I was back there too.

Every week we share a photograph here and on IG showing some of the everyday joys in our lives.

~ memory keeping ~

Notes for October 5, 2014
Daylight saving started today - I love this time of year - my favourite flowers are blooming, lighter evenings means my days feel longer, we're rolling towards birthday season and the end of the year
Blustery, chilly winds with warm sunshine today- I was sure the roof was going to go last night.
Grace is sailing on the river for a friend's 10th birthday and the others are playing cricket in the garden.
The roast is sitting on the bench ready to go in the oven (lamb AND chicken tonight because David let them choose) and Lily is making chocolate pudding for dessert.  The one my mum calls cow pat pudding.

......

I've kept a diary on and off for as long as I can remember.
At times regularly, other times very intermittently.
With words mainly - sometimes pictures, ephemera

I found some of my old ones tucked away in a cupboard I was cleaning out today (still trying to get on top of the spring cleaning).
I got lost in my memories

.......

This is October 5 from the diaries;

2103 - Sunday - David at work.  Lazy, happy Sundaying.  Playing, fighting, chinese checker tournaments, colouring in, cooking.

2012 - I had a one day extravaganza at Floriade.  Flown up as a treat in business class (on points).  I wandered around, met Posie, took hundreds of photos and flew home.  Bliss.

2011  - Lily has croup for the first time in her life aged 8.  David made the opening speech at the RACGP conference in Hobart that he helped organise and I missed it doing school drop-offs.  Inspired by Rich Roberts talk,  Took the kids to the evening cocktail party and they danced to BABBA all night!

2010 - In Cairns for the RACGP conference.  Jack learning to blow bubbles in the pool (poor deprived third child has not had swimming lessons), Gracie making a new friend every day.  Lily has run out of books (disaster)

2009 - flying home from a quick trip to Perth to coincide with the GP conference.  Jetstar infuriating in their lack of service, flight delays and poor attittude.  Tasmanians carrying krispy kremes by the carton load - making me laugh.  Fire on and girls asleep when we got home.

2008 - Braxton Hicks contractions all night.  Breakfast with my brother.  Nesting big time - moved all the baby furniture.

2007 - Our first little Hobart house officially on the market today.  4 groups through for the open home - all very positive.  Friday night take away night (Indian).

2006 - Picked up our wedding rings this morning - the girls in the shop blown away by the romance of eloping.  Flew to Brisbane.  David slept the whole way.  Needless to say the girls (and I) didn't.

2005 - Grace did her first night without an overnight breast feed (at 11 months old!!).  Lily wouldn't eat her tinned salmon as she said it was sad that all its friends had swam away.

2004 - Gorgeous sunny day.  Lily loving reading - pointing out books to have read to her all day.  Calling the baby (in my tummy) "arah" which is what her best friends baby sister is called.

2003 - Lily is sleeping through.  She is waving with 2 hands in an exuberant Princess Di style.  Making da sounds but no ma sounds.

2002 - 32 ish weeks pregnant.   Have given up hot chocolate and biscuits for gestational diabetes and hence losing weight.  Baby fine though!

2001 - no entry

2000 - sexual health education half day as part of our GP training - very interesting and amusing day. Thai takeaway after falling asleep on the couch

1999 - Spent the day job hunting for GP placements for next year.  Went to see Alanis Morissette and Garbage play in Northbridge.  Garbage fantastic.  Alanis drunk, stoned and terrible. David nominally on call - we couldn't hear the phone though.

1998 - Roses by my bedside smelling sweet - an unexpected present from last week. I spotted 22 cygnets on my walk round Lake Monger.  An extra sneaky look through the new house that we've just bought in West Leederville.

.........

I am the memory keeper in our family.
I'm never sure that I've done enough.

Do you keep a journal or diary?

~ our joyful moments - week 39 ~

I'm really grateful for #ourjoyfulmoments as its the only thing keeping my blog going at the moment - I'm determined to find some more time, ideas and photos to share soon!

This week we made caramel slice and styled it just like Donna Hay did in her recipe.  Ours is not so uniformly perfect but it tasted yum!

Karin is travelling in the Cinque Terre.  Hard to believe we were there just 4 short months ago .. I want to go back already,

~ our joyful moments - week 38 ~

Greeny goodness from our gardens this week.

I love the "blossom" that covers our golden elm at this time of the year - we have a hammock under it which is the perfect place to lie on a sunny day.

Karin has been harvesting before the frosts start - I love how productive her garden is.

#ourjoyfulmoments is a weekly photography project - we share our pictures on our blogs and on IG.

I hope there are some simple joys in your day.

~ our joyful moments - week 37 ~

This week I found some"weeds" in the footpath outside our house ... sweet little forget-me-nots that I love having in a vase in our bathroom.

Karin found some cheery hydrangeas - such a gorgeous colour!

We're finding and celebrating the little moments in our week that bring us joy - here and on IG (#ourjoyfulmoments).

~ our joyful moments - week 35 and 36 ~

I missed last week as I was sick in bed with flu - so I'm catching up today.  I'm so grateful for the #ourjoyfulmoments project as its the only thing keeping me blogging at the moment - I'm hoping that will change soon.

Last week we made lemonade scones on a whim and devoured them in minutes, still warm...delicious.
Karin was harvesting beautiful veggies from her garden - and probably making something delicious and gorgeous looking - she is a talented cook and photographer!

Karin and I  are both sharing flowers again this week  - my daughter Lily is holding a beautiful bunch of spring daffodils and Karin went out after the rain and found that beautiful light and those gorgeous pink roses.

(Pink roses are my favourite roses - which ones are your favourite?)

~ our joyful moments - week 34 ~

It's flowers again this week (I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened more often).

I did some weeding and found some more grape hyacinths hiding in my garden.

Karin was at her mum' s and caught that magic light just before a storm.

This is week 34 of a 52 week photography project that Karin and I share on our blogs and on IG - #ourjoyfulmoments.

What's giving you joy this week?
