~ around here this week ~

1.  wisteria at the botanical gardens - that colour!

2.  Grace demonstrating a very unorthodox tackling style in backyard footy games

3.  Nutmeg - getting so fat she can barely jump - someone else must be feeding her cos she's on starvation rations here

4.  I made slightly chewy but totally yummy anzacs

5.  afternoon light in our kitchen

6.  banksia rose sprawling all over one of the fences in the neighbourhood  - I'm hoping to squeeze some more walks after dinner in now the light and weather are better

7.  my photo - Monica McInerney's new bestselling novel - so exciting!!!  I almost fell over when I saw this in Big W.

We were straight back into school routines this week - lots of gymnastics, swimming lessons, skipping and the swimming carnival.  I am also consulting twice a week and this week had some immunising and a uni tute as well.  A very quiet weekend was definitely in order.

How was your week?

~ some school holiday stills ~

Following our grand adventure in Europe earlier in the year we thought some quiet time at home these holidays was in order.  We didn't make many plans and the days unfolded slowly - some playground time, crafting, gardening, time with friends, cooking, playing, wandering, Harry watching.

1.  Cecile Brunner roses are my faves - I found these today - the first of the season

2.  We made Gourmet Girlfriend's sausage rolls (and the spinach and feta ones) - they were both fantastic

3.  Poppy undressed

4.  A wander through the Japanese Gardens at the Botanical Gardens

5.  While the girls and I embarked on a Harry fest,  Jack was allowed some unfettered screen time.
(he's not allowed to watch Harry yet - house rules state you have to read the books first)

6.  Holiday traditions - we always paint our toenails.  Jack is in charge of colour arranging

7.  I worked my last clinic shift for one of my (very) part-time jobs.  They gave me flowers.  I love that.  This is the most amazing dahlia.

8. It was world post day on October 9th  - I sent some post cards and made a little vignette.

9.  Faffing with flowers for instagram - I waste many hours doing this - so much fun.

Have you just had holidays?  What were your highlights?

1.  Such intense concentration as he squeezes the lemons for our pancake mixture this morning

2.  Left-over-from-holidays nail polish and his own method for learning left and right

3.  Beautifully stark winter trees

4.  Our train set now runs through Paris

5.  Leek and potato soup, too much butter and new plates from our travels

6.  Little messages of love in the fruit bowl

7.  We're still looming

8.  Not my favourite tree at all but I can't resist a pop of red

9.  More blossom (completely irresistible)

Life's good round here at the moment
Hope it is at your place too.

~ snippets from our last week at home for a while ~

1.  The sweetest pom pom dahlias on the kitchen table

2.  When the 5 year old paints

3.  Grape hyacinths - they will be so beautiful - and I'll miss them  - but hopefully our house sitters will enjoy them for me

4.  Lily's section of a mural on the pavillion at school - she assures me its a pika and not a rat.  It will be finished when we get back - will be exciting to see how it turns out.

5.  A delivery of sticky gram magnets this week - they really are cute magnets - if you'd like to make some from your IG photos this code will give you a little discount  - FRIEND0U01

6.  More amazing chocolate snowballs in the making

7.  Gorgeous snail mail as part of the April exchange on #thesnailmailcollective (and IG group) - I am going to miss gettting real mail more than just about anything else when we are away.

We leave this week.  The house is in chaos as we pack and sort and try and get everything ready - and yet the urge to photograph, to document never leaves me.

~ snippets of our week ~

April already -  the chill is in the evening air, the days are shorter and I'm feeling the need for scarves and thick socks.

1.  I treated myself to a bell person from erinswindow this week. I'm totally smitten - she's beautiful - such a serene look on her face and a gorgeous collection of treasures.  And I can call the children to dinner with her.

2.  The loom bracelets are breeding I swear.  We're all wearing them - even the Doc.

3.  I was sent a tin of chocolate snowball biscuits and a recipe by a lovely IG contact recently - these were our version - they are simply divine.

4.  We hosted our niece's 9th birthday party this weekend (she just wanted to be with her cousins - so sweet) - this is the apple cake we chose for her - it was a big hit.  Good old women's weekly cake book!

5.  The classic still life - pears on the table in the afternoon light

6.  Wispy, feathery details - another sweet mail gift

7.  Foraged flowers in the window seat (which is used more for photography and storage than sitting)

~ snippets at the end of March ~

1.  Magical evening light in our garden

2.  It rained this week!  We haven't been as dry as everywhere else but this was very welcome - espeically for the garden.

3.  Test shot #1 with the new camera - our back yard - we've been pruning the raspberries and roses and generally getting it tidy so it can self-care while we're away.

4.  Nutmeg - on the grass before the rain  - hopefully it will all green up again soon.

5.  We were a little late to the looming craze (or glooming as Jack insists on calling it) - but now all 3 have embraced it with passion.  I love how all the kids at school (boys and girls) are equally into it.

6.  Anzacs - they never last long around here - and I always forget how easy they are to make.  What's your go-to treat recipe?

7.  Test shot #2 - lilac at the local park - I'm impressed with how quickly I'm learning the settings on the Fuji but there's still a long way to go.

8.  Farmer's market roses (which smell divine) on the piano - and those cheeky babies.  Every time I notice these photos I  am transported to those hazy days of babyhood and I smile. Every single time.

~ this week's snippets ~

1.  My view as I leave pilates every Tuesday morning - Hobart is so pretty on sparkly autumn days. 4 weeks of pilates now and my core and inner thighs still scream at me after each session!

2.  Star anise braised chicken with pickled ginger and lime - a Belinda Jeffery recipe - so good.

3.  I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon the most kind and generous group of women on IG - #thesnailmailcollective group enriches my life via my letterbox and I love it.

4.  Jack's rendition of Mr Pusskins (from the children's book)  - a very guinea-pig like cat if you ask me.

5.  I was in Melbourne for 2 days for a women's health conference this weekend (flew back in tonight) - we found this very cool cafe in the GPO building in the middle of town.  The conference was good but so intense - 18 speakers with short updates on various topics  - and over 1000 GPs.  I got to cuddle my nephew too - that was the highlight.

6.  Playing with watercolours and favourite quotes this week.

7.  Ballerina cosmos in my garden.

Collecting these little moments from our week is a lovely chance to reflect and remember.

I hope your week is lovely
