The lovely Bron runs a linky each week that I try to join as often as I can.
It's all about being grateful, celebrating gratefulness and increasing your own capacity and awareness of all that is wonderful (big and small) in your own life that is worth acknowledging.
This week I'm grateful for books, for reading.
Even (especially) in the last two weeks of being stuck at home because of sick-kids/too-much-washing-because-of-bed-wetting-kids/freeze-your-fingers-off-weather I've squeezed in my reading. I've been devouring the Night Circus in that crazy way where it was so good I just couldn't get enough, but didn't want it to end either.
Reading is my escape. My wind-down. My safe and happy place.
I have to read every day - even just a few pages before I go to sleep.
It centres me, relaxes me, takes me outside my own world.
We're a family of readers (and long may that continue as you can never really claim to be bored with a good book to read), we cherish books, they're usually top of the present list (to give and receive).
Are you a reader?
What was the last book you just couldn't put down?
♥
(I love reading other people's grateful posts as well - they're over here at Village Voices)
I love reading too. I try to do it every day before I go to sleep as well, but blogging does sometimes get in the way. I just finished Paris in Love and really enjoyed it. I've have to look out for the one you mention. I love a good recommendation. I hope you have had a lovely weekend x
ReplyDeleteHaven't read Paris in Love but will put it on the list!
DeleteI love reading! Just got the newest Paolo Cohelo book, Aleph. I think books are the best gifts! So lovely that your whole family loves reading too x
ReplyDeleteI love 'devouring' a book, usually only on holiday these days. I had a fab laugh/cry/cheer with The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings recently x.
ReplyDeleteIm adding 'The Night Circus' to my reading list immediately. x
ReplyDeleteHope you love it
DeleteI love, love, love books, and there are so many I want to read! Night Circus is waiting for me on my iphone. I've read some brilliant books this year, but my absolute favourite would be 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I just wanted it to go on forever! xx
ReplyDeleteYou read on your phone?? Wow! I want to read that King book - its already on my list
DeleteFive words for you 'the Elegance of the Hedgehog'. The best read I've had in ages. I am grateful for books too. Lovely post.
ReplyDeleteOh I loved that
Deletex
Yes, it's always great to find a book that you love! Glad you enjoyed these.
ReplyDeleteI love books & read. Currently I'm reading 'The Rook' by Daniel O'Malley, which I'm really enjoying. Definatley going to add 'The Night Circus' to my list :)
ReplyDeleteI think I knew how much you love reading Vickie - have heard good things about the Rook too
DeleteOh yes!! Definitely a reader! A friend had just recommended 'the night circus' to me last week, can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteThe last book that i devoured was 'I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes' by Jaclyn Moriarty. xxx
Will have to look that one up Leah - thanks
DeleteI'm a reader, and I love that my 21 year old son is too. We've taken to sharing and recommending books to each other. I just adore that!
ReplyDeleteAt the moment I'm reading The Kite Runner. I wouldn't say I can't put it down, but I am enjoying the read. I will add The Night Circus to my list, but I told myself I MUST read all the books on my bookshelf before I purchase any more. And then I'll be switching to a Kindle!
Oh I loved the Kite Runner - cried buckets. I've got a kindle but I don't love it as much as the real thing - its a bit neglected
DeleteThe Night Circus is the best book I have read in a long time! It was enchanting.
ReplyDeleteyay - I'm glad someone else has read and loved it too
DeleteYou are so right, with books around how can one be bored. I'm not much of a novel reader more an information book reader these days but my oldest and my hubby devour books, we are regulars at the local library. x
ReplyDeleteI'll be adding the night circus to my reading list too! I absolutely love reading. I've found it increasingly harder to get the time (or to stay awake!) to read over the last few years. I was in hospital for a few days last week (scheduled op) and read two whole books from cover to cover - bliss!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Emma. Hospital is a desperate step but it would be bliss to have uninterrupted time to read
DeleteOh I love to read but don't get much time to do it anymore.. x
ReplyDeleteFor the love of reading indeed!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an escape I say, just love reading too. I am between reads, but will hunt down 'The Night Circus'. I just finished 'The Book Thief'- beautifully writen
The Book Thief is another fave!
DeleteLove your comment about never being bored with a good book around - so true!! I love reading and find a few pages before bed helps me unwind and gets me in the 'sleepy zone' :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE reading. My favourite quote is "People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading" (Logan Pearsall Smith). I just finished All That I Am by Anna Funder and Past The Shallows by Favel Parrett. Both really good reads.
