~ snippets lately ~

1.  Rosy tea - just the way Dorothy would have liked it.  Loving my new (old) cups and saucers that we inherited.

2.  Kitchen table view (out of sight is the maths homework and the stack of homeless paperwork)

3.  Dancing fucshias - in a hanging garden at someone else's.  I don't have them because I never remember to water them.

4.  Grace participating in a Jump Rope for heart activity on Friday - this is the rope, in a rope, in a rope trick.  I can skip for approximately 1 minute - I have no idea how they manage what they do.

5.  We made valentine's biscuits.  And then discovered only Jack likes fondant icing.

6.  Couscous, spicy chick pea, pomegranate, almond and mint salad ... so good.  It's from What Katie Ate's new weekends cook book.

7.  On the school run this week I just had to stop and take this shot of Peacock Jetty  - so beautiful.  Its my favourite jetty in Hobart - and I get to see it every day.

8.  He likes rainbow bunches.  I like him.  A lot.  Although I wish he'd pick up his shoes.

9.  Kite festival up on Hobart's Regatta Grounds today.  Ours is the teeny green one up the highest.
 (not that its a competition)

I'm struggling to blog regularly.
Or get back to exercising (although I did my first barre code class yesterday - my hammies and butt are suffering.  A lot).
Or sorting the paperwork.
The school routine is more full on than last year and I'm watching way too much game of thrones.

How's your week been?

~ sunday snippets ~

It's been a big week in our house.

We came back from 3 lovely, lazy weeks at the shack where it was mostly sunny to a dismal, grey week with so much rain that the washing is still piled up around us.  And the garden is a swamp (at least the roses are pretty).

We ran round getting Lily ready for her first day at high school - a half day Friday just for the new grade 7s.  Big smiles and lots of chat after a great orientation day had us all breathing big sighs of relief (and her school shoes - first pair in 4 years after wearing sandshoes every day -  haven't given her blisters!).

We sorted out all the Lego and had a bet on how many mini-figures we had.  The final count was 107 - but I suspect there are still some hidden away in secret drawers.

I've started cleaning out the office space and trying to organise my snail mail - this is some from the IG snail mail group I'm in - so much love tied up in those pretty ribbons.

One of the reading piles in my bedroom - I loved how colour themed it was (by accident) - am currently re-reading lots of Kate Atkinson's books - I love them.  The fault in our stars made me cry  - again!

We couldn't resist this huge box of chalks from the supermarket - and between the showers they've had quite a work out.

Pierre de Ronsard roses in their 2nd flush of the season rescued from the rain and sitting on the (momentarily clean) kitchen table.

How has your week been?  Any highlights?  Much rain?  I'm hoping for a bit more summer this week.

~ still from the week that was book week ~

1.  The coldest August morning for 40 years saw me snapping away in the garden for less than a minute before the camera froze!  These forget-me-nots looked so sweet edged in frosty lace.  My magnolia tree didn't like the heavy frost though - all the gorgeous creamy blossoms turned brown instantly.

2.  Daddy's birthday this week - he had to fly home to join us for dinner and then fly out again the next day but we spoiled him with pretty presents and orange cake.

3.  Book Week - my little Cat in the Hat, Katy (from "What Katy did") and Alice.   The school made a great effort with Book Week this year - teachers going from class to class sharing their favourite books, a big book quiz and the parade.  I converted an old Cinderella dress-up with some felt card shapes (still not believing that her size 3 dress up fits almost 11 year old her!) and tacked some fur onto a t-shirt - all within my limited skill set. (Mum made the bonnet - yay for her!)

4.  Daffodil day  - and a little present to myself.

5.  Roly-poly-ing down the hill at the park.  Such joy.

6. and 7.  Daisy chain making and wearing at the Botanical Gardens yesterday.  She's been begging for a picnic for weeks and at last the sun shone.  I loved how she used a fork to poke holes in the stems, and sent her slave brother to collect the daisies.  She was so focused.. and so pleased with the results.

8.  Irresistible.

I'm linking up with Em at the beetleshack to share some of the moments from our week.

1.  Oranges on the table  - left over soccer oranges.  I made an orange cake with them today.  This one.  But I was too impatient to ice and eat it...so no pretty photos.

2.  The girls have been growing crystal trees...and we've been learning about crystals along the way.

3.  He scoots everywhere.  NOT interested at all in learning to ride his bike.  He likes to go too fast for that!

4.  Piccolo* snugged up on our bed.  Cats really do have the best lives.

5.  Nutmeg trying to decide whether she's coming or going.

6.  O is for octopus.  This has to live on my bedside table apparently.

7.  We made trashies into ice cubes and then watched them melt in the bath.  Best use I have found for them.

8.  Meringues for the soccer kiosk - my go to canteen recipe cos its so easy.

9.  More of those daffodils.

Another week.  Sunshine and then snowy winds. Days at the park, days in the garden.  Soccer and hockey games, parties, kiosk duty, parent help, gym, ballets, birthday dinners with friends...our lives.

I link up with Em each week to share some snippets of our week.

1.  Today we made beautiful rainbows and lots of mess with watercolours, wet paper and lots of imagination.  The highlight - just spodging on colour and then tipping the page to mix the colours in long wet trails.

2.  Kinder work from this week.   Awwww....

3.  A pink iceberg from just outside my office window.

4.  We made a washi tape road.  And then we had a lot of cars (in patterns) desperate to use the road.

5.  I have no idea what prompted this moment of silence.  But in better news - she has learned to tie her own shoes now!

6.  It's no secret I've been enjoying the blossoms this week.

7.  Hidden amongst the blossoms - a perfect web - I'd love to go back with a spray bottle of water for some gorgeous droplet shots.  Have you ever tried that?

These are just some of the little moments from our week.
I really love the glimpse it gives in to our lives - and its so much fun peeking into other lives over here where Em hosts the weekly linky.

What was the highlight of your week?

~ stills from the July holidays ~

1.  Our garden is awash in yellow - lots of new daffodils are appearing daily - including these sweet Golden Dawn ones.

2.  Sunlight and those curls during sandpit play earlier this week.

3.  Strawberry pancakes for breakfast this morning - we used Bill's recipe and it was a total winner.

4.  A new motto for our walls.  Do you like it?

5.  Lily busy writing postcards as part of the love postcard project (it's a postcard exchange programme for kids - such a great idea - they cannot wait to get their own pretty mail).

6.  Ever since we got back from Melbourne its been airport play here - there are planes lined up everywhere and lots of zooming noises going on.

7.  So much rain today.  Our backyard is now swampish - and we're moving onto boat play.

8.  Confused by the weather (as we all are) some very early blossoms are appearing down our street.

We've had quite a slow last week of the holidays.
A few home days (which I love), lots of garden play, Despicable Me 2 (we all loved it) and some sleep overs.
We head back to school on Tuesday with mixed feelings.
What's your week been like?  What does this week hold?

I'm joining in with Em and sharing snippets (and stills) here.

~ snippets ... mid-winter in Hobart ~

Dark MOFO hit Hobart this week and we've all been getting in the mood and celebrating all that is lovely about the dark and winter in Tassie.

1.  The skywhale in all her glory.  She was commissioned as part of the centenary celebrations in Canberra and visited here as part of our winter celebration week.  I found her curiously beautiful.  The children could not get past those boobies.

2.  Spectra a light installation by Ryoji Ikeda graced our skies all week (more MOFO action).  Sometimes shrouded in mist and fog and sometimes clear.  Beautiful and mesmerising.

3.  First night of the winter feast down at the wharves.  The shed looked beautiful - and the food and entertainment were fab.  We finished with Bruny Island icecream (it was 2 degrees outside) with hot salted caramel sauce...to die for!

4.  It's garlic planting time (apparently you are supposed to do it in the nude) - I'm wondering if this will grow.

5.  School photos this week.  What a battle to get them all out of their sports gear and into real school shoes!

6.  They've been arranging shells.  Obsessive much?

7.  Details...I'm all about the little things

8.  While I'm busy pouring water on the windscreen, scraping off the ice and muttering under my breath about moving to Queensland they are happy to embrace the frost

9.  Daisy chains on the window ledge...little treasures and pieces of them everywhere I look.

I'm linking up with Em to share some snippets of life at our place.
