~ snap it ... breakfast ~

{Sometimes when it all goes pear shaped I have this after school drop off}

{My weekend treats - Pigeon Hole sour dough and raspberry jam}

Breakfast time around here used to be quite stressful  (3 kids, different tastes, ordering from the menu in their head.... )
That is until I introduced the "school days" and "other days" rules - on school days they can choose between weetbix or porridge (and then add extras like fruit/toast), on other days they can choose from the cupboard (usually nutrigrain, rice bubbles, mini wheats or cheerios) and campaign for eggs/pancakes etc as well.  There's always fresh fruit available.  They drink water or milk.
No fights.
Breakfast sorted.

I usually have porridge in winter (topped with stewed rhubarb or stewed apple) and bircher muesli in the warmer months. ( I mix Carman's muesli with grated apple, yoghurt, cinnamon, honey, nuts, dried apricots, craisins and have a big tub in the fridge...yum!).  The Doc has a banana on his way out the door... I still need to work on him.

Do you have breakfast rules?
See some other yummy breakfasts here where we play snap-it each week.

  1. I love your rules :) I usually have two weetbix orders and one toast, but they are all mad for porridge at the moment.. now that winter has passed?? I'm not complaining, quick and easy. It's nearly 9pm and that coffee still looks damn good x

  7. Oh yummy pictures - I get hungry and won't eat breakfast until tomorrow (well that's actually today now). I'm like you - porridge in the winter and muesli during the summer. I make my own muesli and it's delicious (and contains much less sugar). :) xo

  8. I don't really have any 'rules' I just try not to have tea & toast too often (especially difficult when it's cold). I love warm quinoa for breakfast - either with fruit or the chocolate (cocoa) version I invented :)

  11. Lol, love your breakfast rules. With three children I can so appreciate the order. Now that my children are grown, my only rule is, “don’t you dare finish the milk before I’ve had my morning tea.” Works just fine. Wanted to say hello, you’re on my good mail list from Sarah. Looking forward to getting to know you and reading your blog. :)

  12. I like your rules, they're similar to mine... porridge or weet-bix during the week and Saturday is the special treat of cocoa-pops. Sunday we often go out for breakfast and gets eggs or something. Fruit is always available, drinks are milk or water. Makes breakfast time much smoother :)
