This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Art Farm Birchs Bay Sculpture Trail.  I think we've missed 2 in the last 10 years - and one was last year when we were in Europe.  You could safely say we're big fans.

This year we took some family members who've never been before and it was lovely to experience it through their eyes as well.

This year there are 34 new sculptures and quite a few old favourites that have been acquired by Five Bob Farm and remain permanently on site.

I've shown a few of our favourites above and can highly recommend the trail as a lovely 1/2 day outing if you're in the region in the next few months.

My previous posts about the trail are here and here.

~ snippets ~

1.  Lots of leaf throwing on the kinder excursion to the Botanical Gardens this week.  I love how this one turned out.
2.  A very organised 4 year old lives here apparently.  You wouldn't know it from the state of his bedroom.
3.  Nutmeg, our very fat tabby cat coordinating beautifully with the green background
4.  On the sculpture trail at Birchs Bay - I submitted this photo into a competition they were running this year and look...
5.  It made it into the exhibition along the trail. Yay!!
6.  It's been a very mild start to autumn - here's the gang still wearing shorts at Salamanca this week.
7.  This happened this week.  Oldest reading to youngest so I could make the lunches and have a shower in the morning chaos.
8.  New fingerless gloves for everyone (these are Lil's) from the flower room.  Gorgeous colours, snuggly alpaca yarn and all of $8-$9 each!!
9.   A very confused ranuncula who appeared a good 3-4 months early this week.
10.  More beautiful autumn colour - I really fall in love with leaves at this time of the year.
11.  The view from the cafe at Peppermint Bay today...after our walk along the sculpture trail we had coffees, fat chips and the best aioli.

I'm joining in with  the lovely Em to share some bits of our week.
Enjoy your week.

~ Birchs Bay Sculpture Trail ~

This weekend marked our annual pilgrimage south to Birch's Bay for the sculpture trail walk.
It was a gorgeous day...too good to waste on jobs at home...and we thought it would be a great finish to the Easter school holiday week.
As usual, there were a number of sculptures scattered along a 1.5 km trail through farm and bush.
This year is the first that the Doc hasn't had to carry someone in the backpack. Yay for growing kids.

We did, however, have pockets full of jelly snakes to coax tired legs up the hills. There were also ground level ceramic arrows and rusted iron arrows on poles marking the trail which kept it super-excititng for the 3yo as he raced ahead to find the way.

Each year there are about 20 new sculptures whilst some of the ones from previous years have been obtained and are permanently on the trail.  This year I really loved the metal wildflowers, the wooden phalanges and the "found" buoys painted in rainbow hues.  Lil and Jack voted for the blue berry tree, David loved the stork and Gracie wouldn't choose a favourite...she wants to go again next weekend to really make sure she is choosing the right one.

We finished off with coffee, beer, salted caramel (yum!) and huge scones with pots of fresh raspberry jam and cream at Peppermint Bay.  Other people have told me that the Fleurty's cafe on site does a good coffee but they were really rude to our kids a couple of years ago and I just can't let go of the grudge.

If you're in Tassie in the next few months I highly recommend this as a short day trip.
And let me know if you're brave enough to try Fleurtys.
