~ our joyful moments 2015 - weeks 22-25 ~

I'm managing to journal every day (in my 365 diary and doing the life:captured promtpts).  I'm writing post cards most days.  I post on IG (mini blogging) at least once a day ... no wonder I'm struggling to find time to compose/compile real blog posts.

Karin and I chose books as our theme for June - lovely subject matter.

The top photo was my current (that week) reading pile in the bedroom.  I really love Kate Atkinson's turn of phrase.

Next was a flat-lay vignette style shot of my favourite book from last year that I'm currently re-reading  (its fabulous but devastating).

My next shot was my grandmother's recipe book - we were searching for her coconut and raspberry slice recipe.  Its such a lovely keepsake to have - splattered with butter, annotated in parts, little notes stuck in).

This week I found these lovely versions of some of my childhood favourite reads - they're such lovely editions.  I remember reading and acting out bits of the Secret Garden over and over again with a friend.  The water colour is by Meredith Gaston - check her out here.

What are you reading? I'd love to know.

The first 7 days of each month marks vignette time on IG.  This is a competition run by Jen of Interiors Addict wherein she supplies a word for each day and then people submit vignettes showing their take on the word of the day.  The community that participates is huge - but supportive, encouraging and hugely inspiring.  Its a little chance each month to challenge my creativity.

Usually I ponder on the word the night before and then assemble my things and take a photo each morning - it has led to some sleepless nights - ridiculous!  This month I took an hour a day before it started, gathered some pretty bits and bobs from the house and then made and shot each photo within that hour.  No stress, less mess, no fuss.

I'm really happy with how they turned out this month  - even though they all look like different background they're all on the window seat in our lounge at about the same time - wish I could be consistent in my processing/filtering!

My favourite is the water one. Which is yours?

~ that was September ~

September always means spring, flowers and birthday celebrations.
This year there were vignettes, a mini holiday in WA, mail exchanges and purple fever as well.

This is how it all looked on instagram.

What does October bring ...more flowers, school holidays, my baby turning 5...who knows what else?I'm looking forward to it.

~ snippets - the vignette version ~

Day 1: celebrate

Day 2: favourite colour

Day 3: stationery

Day 4: contrasting

Day 5: winter

Day 6: cheerful

Day 7: cleaning

I've been snapping vignettes all week - and looked today only to discover that the memory card on my Nikon was empty ... oops!
So this weeks pics are my vignettes from the Instagram competition/linky that rolls round each month courtesy of Jen from Interiors Addict.

Its such a fun week - and does give a glimpse into some bits of our life - even if they are a bit more "arranged" than real life here.

School holidays now for 2 weeks - I love the holidays - just hanging out with my kids is one of my favourite things to do.

What's happening in your world this week?
Which vignette is your favourite?  (mine is winter - mainly because of those gorgeous hellebores {winter roses}).

~ may vignettes ~

{day 1: hanging.  Rainbow brights, whimsy and hearts in my daughter's room}

{day 1: hanging (version2)  - On our colourful hooks in the foyer}

{day 2: labels.  The Scarborough Fair version}

{day 3: timber.  Seeing the wood and the trees}

{day 4: colourful.  Imagining a new corner in our dining area}

{day 5: porcelain/ceramics.  Some favourite pieces on my table}

{day 6: dining.  A seasonal offering}

{day 7: travel.  I'm a traveller (and a collector)}

I've just enjoyed another week playing #7vignettes along with the fabulous IG community that the lovely Jen from the Interiors Addict blog has created with her monthly competition.
Lots of gorgeous, inspiring, fun shots.
Lots of chat and encouragement.
So much creative fun.

I didn't go with any over riding theme (or forward planning).
I got up each day and searched the house for inspiration.
I think I'll try and be more organised next time - I get a bit frustrated when I can't find what I want/need or the light changes or it just isn't working.

My favourite day was dining - I think keeping it simple works for me.
I loved colourful too - I want our house to look like this all the time!

~ april vignettes ~

{day 1: favourite}

{day 2: layered}

{day 3: gift(s)}

{day 4: everyday}

{day 5: soft}

{day 6: rough}

{day 7: secondhand}

These are my vignettes for the April week of #7vignettes with the very stylish Jen and others over on IG.  I found "rough" the hardest prompt and my favourite this month was my "layered" shot which I titled "pieces of me".

I was super excited to see that Sarah of mollysmaison was the overall winner - most deservedly I think.

Now I'm looking forward to May - if you have IG come and join in the fun.

~ March vignettes ~

This month (and last month) I've had a ball playing along with the #7vignettes challenge over on Instagram.  It's run by the lovely Jen of Interiorsaddict.

Here are my efforts this week.

{day 1 - white}

{day 2 - spots}

{day 3 - paper}

{day 4 - my colour palette}

{day 5 - bathroom}

{day 6 - geometric}

{day 7 - upcycled}

I'm still not sure of the defintion of "vignette" but it seems to result in little arrangements of stuff and beautiful photographs.  Mel wrote a fabulous blog piece about her efforts at creating little masterpieces last month.  I've had similar experiences here - I actually ended up raiding some of the children's mantlepiece "vignettes" to use some bits and bobs in mine.  There are lots of very clever stylists who play along but there are also lots of friendly and encouraging people playing just for fun (like me).

After doing the white prompt in my Freedom display box (day 1, above) I set myself a mini challenge to do a second photo on each theme in the white box.  It was fascinating to see how different the box ended up looking using slightly different light and filters (mostly in afterglow) but also how much little stuff we have lying around (and is now all lying around on a table as I muster the energy to put it all away... that part is never as much fun).

{day 2 - spots}

{day 3 - paper}

{day 4 - my other colour palette}

{day 5 - bathroom}

{day 6 - geometric}

{day 7 - upcycled!}

I found the upcycled theme the hardest - for both sets of photos.
I think my favourites are the original paper shot and the colour palette shot in the box.

Thanks Jen for running such a fun meme and to all the lovely people who commented on my photos - I'll be back next month for sure.

I'm going out for dinner tonight with some of my loveliest girlfriends.  Can't wait.  Hope your Friday evening is fun too.
