~ garden mood board oct/nov 2013 ~

My garden is awash in tones of pink/purple and blue.  

Lupins, granny's bonnets, foxgloves, lavender and delphiniums.  

There are roses in bud - masses of them.

The grass and the weeds grow riotiously -  as do the forget-me-nots.

The peonies are waiting patiently for their turn to shine.

Summer is in the wind.

~ garden mood board - June/July 2013 ~

       

Today we have had gale force winds, showers and weirdly high temperatures (about 18 today when we've been getting used to 12s)
I ran outside at lunchtime gathering examples of everything that's blooming... it was only a small handfull ... some roses, daisies that never seem to end, the first jonquils and snow flakes and a hellebore.
The pictures are kind to the garden - it doesn't look pretty at all - its bare branched, empty spaced and fairly bleak out there.

~ garden mood board may/june 2013 ~

 

It feels like winter is still creeping up on us this year.
It's still sunny and warm (ish) and so dry.
Our garden is neglected - too many other fun things to do on clear, sunny days.
 
The leaves have almost all fallen - they carpet the lawn - they invite scrunching and swishing and tossing.
There are a few herbs, scattered flowers.

It's hibernation time, time to pause, to wait and watch.

~ garden mood board April/May 2013 ~

 

It's May.  Nominally autumn but feeling very wintery.
The chill air bites in the mornings and evenings, the scarves are out, umbrellas are by the door. 
The garden has been calling for rain and today it's here.  The fire will be lit soon.

Moment to moment, day to day the garden changes in autumn as the leaves change and fall, the light softens.  
The last of the roses and cosmos are still blooming, I spy an occasional windflower and dahlia.  Our vegies are finished, the salad leaves gone to seed.
For the first time I've raided the neighbour's garden as well - those red hips were just too good to resist and ours are gone to an over vigorous pruner.

~ garden mood board Mar/April 2013 ~

 

The conifers line our back fence and protect us from nosy neighbours.
I barely notice them and yet today they seemed to call to me as the perfect background for the few blooms we still have.    Our indian summer has really dried out the garden and we have lost quite a few plants. 

The leaves haven't really started to change here  - yet in other areas of Hobart I can already wade knee deep through swathes of crispy leaves.  All of a sudden there's a chill in the air though (we lit our first fire last night) and already bulbs are starting to poke their way through.

Looking forward to seeing what's growing in other people's gardens here.

~ garden mood board - feb/march 2013 ~

 

The end of the month always sneaks up on me ...  I never seem quite prepared for the mood board.
Today I had 5 minutes to snip away in the garden and then decided to stick my blossoms to the wall for a quick and easy photo shoot.
There were shrieks when the girls arrived home and now they're planning the same for their rooms.
(what have I started??).

No leaves are falling yet but we can feel the evenings becoming cooler.  The garden is yearning for some regular rain.  Autumn approaches...

~ garden mood board - jan/feb 2013 ~

 

 

Much of my garden is scorched and parched - victim of the unseasonably (for Tasmania) hot weather we've had in January.  There are huge cracks in the ground, the grass is stubbly brown and many of the trees look almost autumnal with burnt brown leaves.  We've lost camellias, daphnes, roses and some fuschias.

There are survivors - the lavender is thriving, the agapanthus and most of the roses are pretty hardy, some of the smaller cottagey plants are just starting to bloom.  Our tomatoes are finally starting to ripen.

I'm doing monthly garden mood-boards with Karin and her friends again this year.

It's been hot and windy as we move into summer and my garden has really suffered in the last few days.
These are some of the survivors.
The next few weeks should bring masses of raspberries, cosmos, more roses and more lupins - I can't wait.

Blustery, fickle, beautiful spring is here.
And its all about celebrating the pretty. the transient, the explosions of colour.
I love this time of year in the garden - the potential realised, the daily discoveries, the overwhelming joy of it all.

~ garden mood board - August ~

My garden is certainly ready to farewell winter and welcome spring (just like I am).
The blossoms are out, green bulbs are pushing their way through (slightly) warmer soil.
It's the seasonal of renewal, of new beginnings.

We haven't anything to harvest (except lemons and herbs) so I'm concentrating on the pretty blossoms and bulbs that make my heart sing.  I've filled pots with seedlings and bulbs and can't wait to see them bloom over the next few weeks.
