~ saturday evening ~

The carols are on, the children are asleep, the first Christmas cocktail of the night has gone down a little too easily (vodka, ginger ale, lots of lime, mint and ice).

Its much calmer than last night when we followed a pathetic meow to find a kitten stuck up a tree and almost had to call the fire brigade (do they still do that?).  Sense prevailed and we left her there - she obviously waited until first light and came scooting down demanding food.

We've had a fabulous dinner - crayfish courtesy of a grateful patient (we love those ones) and raspberries freshly picked (Still).  At the current prices we've gobbled our way through $500-600 worth so far.  Will definitely be planting more for next year.

I'm sitting down now to finish the Christmas cards.  Wondering why it feels like a bit of a chore.
I love getting them - catching up with the news, remembering some of those friends whom we only seem to hear from at this time of year, seeing how the children have grown.
I think its the burden of having to do them in a hurry, of writing the same things over and over.
Tomorrow I'll post the last ones off (late again!) and will feel satisfied.

Do you send cards?  Do you love to receive them?  Or think it's all a bit of a joke and just do the email cc'd to everyone?
How's your weekend going?

  1. Those raspberries look absolutely delicious with icecream and chocolate sauce. It's so satisfying growing things for your family to eat, my garden is looking a bit neglected at the moment but the herbs are still growing strong.

I know what you mean about the Christmas cards being a chore, it is nice though to send them and especially nice to receive them. I do it every year although tonight instead of writing I'll be making some, late here too.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. x

  2. I've never got a crayfish from a patient - lucky you!

Our raspberries are running out sadly. Just need to convince the gardener (aka the Mr) to plant more for next year!

  3. Your raspberries look very delicious!
Christmas cards....will start tomorrow afternoon, I hope! Not so many as usual, had a friend ring for a chat Friday instead of sending a card. Times are changing.

  4. Mmmm the food looks delish !!

I remember I used to give out christmas cards in school but I have to agree that times are changing and it seems that a facebook post is enough for most people...kind of sad actually. Although i prefer that to e-cards that are sent via a mass email which I cannot stand...either way it´s supposed to be the thought that counts right ?? ;)

  5. I still do Christmas cards. Enjoy the tradition. However I am writing less and less - only to people interstate and overseas really. We are receiving less and less also. And we are receiving less and less also. Our generation are not really big into cards are they. Lobster from a patient - brilliant! We live in the wrong area!! I do enjoy the chocs and the wine that we receive on occasion from patients!

  8. Yummo to the raspberries. I find christmas cards a chore as well for the same reasons. I only posted them off yesterday, I seem to be getting later and later each year. I should make a new years resolution that I sit down next year and do them on the 1st of December.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful christmas and safe new year

  9. Those raspberries just look soooooo delicious! Even though in this digital world maybe a cc email would be easier/cheaper/more enviro friendly etc etc...I LOVE sending cards! Moreso, I love receiving them. I am a bit scarred by my childhood I think - Mum got depression and eventually stopped sending Chrissy cards. As the years went by, I watched the number of cards we received dwindle from about 30 down to 5. It was so SAD! I wish I had kept up the family card writing for her now - but I can't change that. I can send heaps now though! A bit nutty hey?
