I don't take many black and white shots - I'm more about the colour but there's a new Wednesday theme group happening over here and I've been loving Sarah's instagram shots and thought I'd play along too.
This is our old piano - its about 100 years old, a little battered but still beautiful.
For ages its been more decorative than anything but this year both girls have started lessons.
They're even starting to make some recognisable music (even more so now it's been tuned).
And so far, I haven't even had to nag about practicing...long may that last.
I've been thinking about learning again too... I would love to be able to belt out some tunes but years of lessons (and being nagged a lot to practice) have seen me barely able to tap out a two fingered tune. It's still a dream of mine though.
Do you play an instrument?
Would you like to?

Beautiful photo, I love the script on the piano. Must be a pleasure to look at and surely worth the effort to brush up on your skills.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to learn how to play the piano ... I spent years learning the violin, mostly under duress. When I was about 15 years old, I finally got the nerve to tell my parents that I didn't really like it! Now that I am older, I feel bad about it ... they spent so much money and time on lessons. I haven't touched the violin in years but I can't bring myself to get rid of it, so it just collects dust on top of the wardrobe these days ...
ReplyDeletethat is a stunning photo! i dream of having an old piano in the house...however it would help if someone could play it! I played the cello for years....i really should start again...both are beautiful instruments.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo, i think that learning an instrument is a great gift. We've gone brass initially in our house; trumpet & trombone but we've stretched to multiple instruments: guitars, drums, piano.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo Ally! I don't play any insturments, but I so wish I did. x
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous photo! Just beautiful! Imagine the songs that it has played over the 100 years! Such history. I too don't play any instruments....wish I was talented enough! x
ReplyDeleteI played drums and percussion semi-professionally for about 15 years before 'resuming' photography and I sang a bit too. I know there are those that do not consider drums to be musical (Q:What do most drummers get on their IQ tests? A:Drool) and a part of me wishes I had learned the piano too :-)
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm thinking more B&W from you girl!
What a beautiful piano, black & white is perfect .
ReplyDeleteYour piano looks beautiful in black and white. I do wish that I could play an instrument. If I could it would have to be the flute it was something I always wanted to learn when I was younger. Miss 12 played it for a while but doesn't anymore sadly, she still has the flute so maybe I might just have to try her's one day:) xx
ReplyDeleteI played flute at school, sung in lots of choirs & taught myself a little guitar... but always had an ear for piano. I would hassle friends who had lessons (and hated being "forced" to play piano) to show me all the things they could play. Mum never let me have lessons...I had too much else going on. I still remember how to play lots of the songs my friends showed me, it is bizarre how stuff has stuck in my head & fingers! When I turned 30 I decided I would have the lessons I had always dreamed of. It was wonderful, I HIGHLY recommend you go back and have more lessons. If your heart is in it you'll be amazed at what you'll achieve! I only lasted a year in lessons because I got pregnant and had morning sickness and got busy and then had a baby...yadayadayada...but I'll definitely go back again. It was joyous to do something so special for myself. I LOVE your piano! xx
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful!! I love the history & the enjoyment it must bring to hear the sweet sound it makes. Thank you for joining in with snap it x
